Testicular cancer is a fatal condition that can occur to men at any age.
This type of condition is very fatal when they are discovered in the late stages.
However, they can be easily treated when they are discovered at an early stage.
Men can easily detect the early stage of testicular cancer. They simply have to check their testicles monthly to determine if there are lumps or unknown skin conditions that were found in the testicles.
When these are detected, medical procedures or simple medication can be immediately administered to avoid full blown testicular cancer.
But even though checking the testicles for testicular cancer, this practice is rarely done by males. Many are not aware of this form of self-examination which means they did not have any knowledge that they might have contracted testicular cancer.
The only way they can feel they have the condition is when pain is experienced in the testicular area. But this stage is already advanced which means serious and expensive medical treatment has to be made. But because many did not have any knowledge of self-examination, many are susceptible to this form of medical condition.
The fact about the lack of self-examination for testicular cancer was presented in the journal “Pediatrics”. The study was made by the Medical College of Georgia and it was focused on 129 male medicine residents in various parts of the country.
They took the test online and the test was focused on their sexual health. The study has shown that less than 30% of the residents practice self examination for testicular cancer.
But even with the small number of medical residents that practice this procedure, 40% of the residents teach self examination for testicular cancer. Even though more medical residents teach this self-procedure, the fact that it’s less than half should be a concern.
There is only one reason why the medicine residents failed to personally undergo this self examination: neglect. Many medicine residents forget that they should practice this procedure monthly. On the other hand, the medical residents also have one reason why they fail to teach this procedure: time.
Many residents are too busy interacting with their patients that they don’t have enough time to help and encourage other men to undergo self-examination for testicular cancer.
This neglect is actually alarming since self examination for testicular cancer will not last more than a minute or two. Teaching others including explaining the reason why this procedure is a must is less than five minutes only.
Adults should consider this situation alarming since the cases of testicular cancer increase every year. In the past 25 years, the number of cases of this medical condition have increased by more than 40%. In fact, testicular cancer is the number one cancer for men aged 15 to 35.
While there are other factors that determine the risk of testicular cancer (family history, Caucasian and undescended testes), it’s still a practice that should be observed by every male in order to detect this medical condition at an early stage.
