Penis Enlargement Surgical Procedures

Penis enlargement surgery is not a topic that men usually talk about as part of a polite conversation. However, it’s a subject of interest for men who are convinced or worried that they do not measure up in this department.

There are a plethora of penis enlargement procedures and techniques ranging from surgical procedures, manual exercises, stretching devices, pills and injections that claim to increase the penile length and girth. While some report huge successes, some are moderately successful, some are pure failures and yet others are nothing but hoaxes.

The surgical procedures to lengthen a penis or increase the girth/circumference are many. Surgical means of penis enlargement began in the United States in 1991. Generally, it has been seen that procedures that are meant to thicken the penis size are more effective than those for increasing the size.

Here are some of the surgical techniques used in penis enlargement:

Detaching Ligaments

The suspensory ligaments that connect the penis to the pubic bone underneath it are detached to lengthen the penis. This is an outpatient surgery that is performed under general anesthesia, and may use a laser to cut the ligaments. It works on the premise that only two-thirds of the actual penis is seen extending outside of the body. By cutting off the ligaments, the other one-third that is inside the body comes out and advances. This surgery has the potential to extend the penis for less than an inch. It changes the length of a flaccid penis but not when erect.

Side Effects: Incorrect cutting of the ligaments can lead to the penis becoming unstable and positioning at odd angles.

Skin Flaps For Girth

This procedure for penis enlargement involves cutting skin flaps from the pubic region and attaching them to the penis, in an attempt to increase the girth.

Side effects: This has been seen to result in severe deformities, including scarring, growth of hair below the penis and several other issues.

Fat Free Transfer (FTT)

Fat is harvested from other body areas and injected into the penile shaft. This is done to make the penis wider. The end result is a wider penis both in flaccid and erect states. But there is no change in the length and shape. Many patients say that they had to undergo a second procedure after three months for better results,

Side Effects: The problem with this procedure is that this new fat is absorbed by the body in a short while. This is also not considered as a safe or effective way of penis enlargement.

Tissue Grafts

Tissue from cadavers is taken and the grafts are rolled in layers around the penile shaft to increase the girth. Even if some doctors do this, it is not considered a legitimate way of increasing penis size and not recommended at all.

Side Effects: Formation of tissue patches and formation of lumps.

Penile Implants

Yet another surgery uses inflatable penile implants and works just as breast implants work. This is usually the last option for men who want an increase in penis size.

Side Effects: Infection is a possibility along with sensitivity and a lot of pain. The long-standing problem could be of scar tissue formation and loss of sex drive.

Surgeons themselves ask men to take up some counseling before undergoing a penis enlargement surgery. This is because there is an element of risk associated with most surgical procedures, with negative outcomes ranging from scarring to tearing of the skin, to permanent loss of sexual function. If the important cells in the penis are damaged, the loss of sexual feeling exists for life.

The skepticism on the part of medical professionals when it comes to this subject is understandable and stems from the many known cases of permanent injury involved in the penis enlargement procedures. This is the reason no reputable medical society will endorse penis enlargement surgery performed for purely cosmetic reasons.

Changing the size of the penis through a surgical procedure is expensive and highly risky, as most of them are irreversible. The question you must ask yourself is, “Are the benefits worth the risks?”
