The Broken Penis

The broken penis is as weird a situation as the name sounds. Knowing that a man has a broken penis is like waking up from a bad dream. But it happens quite frequently as doctor’s report. Fracturing a penis is the scariest thing from a guy’s perspective and they get terrified at the thought because it highly indicates the possibility of not being able to have sex ever in their life again. It is like losing everything they owned ever. How does the penis break? In many cases we notice that the penis is bent at an angle and some are curved.

Just like that an erect straight penis is very hard and rigid. When it is fully erect it loses all its elasticity and flexibility and with excess pressure or thrust it can snap or break. This is called a penile fracture. There is no bone in the penis that can fracture but an erect penis is very hard due to the blood pressure created in it while being sexually aroused.

The skin under the shaft which is the ligament actually tears in case of a break. Think of the penis as a plastic pipe which is a little flexible under normal circumstances but when it bends too much it breaks it doesn’t break to completely get disjoint but it stretches so much that it loses its shape. That is what happens to the penis. In some cases it bends so hard that the ligament which surrounds the penis just tears badly.

Most of the penile fractures occur during sex and surprisingly doctors disclose that the patient’s are so embarrassed to discuss about it that they give all other reasons for breakage than the actual ones because they simply don’t come o terms that these things can happen and they don’t look at it like an accident. Penile fracture in fact is an accident and there is nothing to hide about it. It doesn’t happen because the person was inexperienced in sex and did something stupid to break it.

If a penile fracture is ignored it could lead to many severe problems further and it should be immediately attended to. There are many complications like angulations, scarring and may even result in impotency if left untreated. Luckily a penile fracture can be rectified and there are methods to do it. Doctors have observed that the penile fracture is so painful that the patients immediately rush to the hospital themselves and get admitted to the emergency room.

A complete recovery can be made by a surgery and after the surgery the patient is kept in the observation room for a couple of days after which they will be perfectly alright to lead a normal sexual life again. Penile fractures if ignored can lead to a lot of problems and if they ignore there are dangers that the urethra might get damaged too. Damaging of the urethra has a lot of ugly repercussions and so it is strongly advised not to ignore a penile fracture to rectify on its own. In most cases it doesn’t get better on its own. But penile fracture is better if it doesn’t happen so prevention is always better than cure in this case. How do people make sure they never end up with a penile fracture?

The answer to this was provided by many researches. It was commonly observed that guys who have thin and long penis are more susceptible to a penile fracture than others who don’t. However this is not completely right though it is a strong possibility. Penile fractures are common when couples having sex try different sexual positions which they are not used to and if they try a lot of acrobatics which is unusual in posture. Even if the sexual activity has been rough then there are chances for penile fractures.

It is pretty obvious in all cases that why the penile fracture happened no matter what the patient says. When there is a penile fracture the penis bends in the opposite direction to the injury. Well the prevention here is not to stop being adventurous and venturing out into new positions and unexplored sexual fantasies. But do it with care. Not all positions are viable in the first place. Practice and expertise is needed in thee kind of sexual activities and more importantly patience is needed. If there is anything which is done in haste there could be severe damages.

When the patient goes to the emergency room with a penile fracture the first possibility which is considered is urethra damage and the patient is checked for it immediately. They check the urethra for blood and the presence of any voided blood, and this possibility usually indicates that there has been urethra damage. After the urethra damage is ruled out the actual fracture zone is looked into.

Treating a penile fracture is a surgical procedure and it is actually a conservative process. If the CC or the corpus cavernosum shows a tear this tear is surgically repaired. In case this is not surgically repaired then there will be blood leak every time the patient gets an erection and all this would end up in an infection. So treating the tear is as important as treating the fracture. The fracture is usually treated by a conservative method called corpus cavernosogram. It is actually a pretty simple and a standard procedure.

In the Corpus cavernosogram procedure the penis is cleaned with iodine and anesthetized and then the surgery is performed. The conservative procedure which is performed without x rays or any radiology may result in alter complications. A few hospitals have noticed the differences between the conservative and the surgical procedures. They found that the patients treated surgically improved quickly and the erections were normal after the surgical procedure.

The patients that were treated conservatively ha curvature in many cases and the erection was a bit at an angle. Surgical treatment involves taking a lot of x rays and inculcates right approach to the problem. The results often are uniform but since conservative just involves treatment without x-rays and radiology have resulted in scarring and sexual problems later for the patient. In the surgical procedure many patients have reported allergic symptoms due to the contrast material used in the procedure.

If the tunica has no tear then the patient is discharged immediately and gets treated only through ice packs for the pain. Until the penis heals completely they are put on pain relievers and anti inflammation drugs. Then patients are advised to refrain from all sexual activities until the patient is cured.

People who undergo surgery usually recover within a few weeks form the surgery and after which they can resume their regular life including sexual activities. But patients who have had urethra damage take longer to recover and they are advised a lot of rest even after the treatment is over and they are discharged. They get discharged after 4 days to one week.

They are advised to lead a restrained life for at least 2 months before they ensure that the urethra has recovered completely. He chances are high that it will recover completely but the recovery procedure is slow pace which may be a little frustrating for the patients.

A lot of people question the medical sciences field saying that how come there is less progress in this area of medical science in spite of so much advancement in the medical field. There is a lot of research being put into this area of medical sciences. Practical exposure is not easy in such cases to use as a learning experience because it involves sensitive organs.

That is why the progress is slow. How ever so far the surgical procedure for the rectification of a penile fracture has been quite effective and fruitful. Side effects are very few and none in most cases. It has been more effective than the conservative procedure and medical doctors are working on improving the surgical procedures and take it to an advanced level.
