Young Adults Not Using Protection

Using condom during sexual interaction is the most popular and practical form of protection.

Aside from preventing pregnancy, use of condom also helps in preventing certain sexually transmitted diseases. It’s highly recommended for everyone who is sexually active and they are very inexpensive.

The key to successful use of condom is in consistency. If you’re sexually active, you need to use condoms in every sexual interaction.

One slip can cause problems such as unwanted pregnancy or even sexually transmitted diseases such as the dreaded HIV/AIDS.

Young adults, who are most likely sexually active, should observe this practice not only to protect themselves but also their sexual partner.

But recent survey suggests a bad practice among young adults. A research led by Hasbro Children’s Research Center indicates that many young adults have experienced unprotected sex for the past three months. Some have even experienced unprotected sex with more than one partner during the same time period.

The number of unprotected sexual encounter is even staggering – many young adults have indicated in the survey that they have experienced more than 15 unprotected sexual encounters for the past months. Clearly this places them in grave danger caused by unprotected sex.

The reason why young adults opted not to use condom during their sexual encounter is very simple. Many believe that sexual interaction using a condom can lead to awkward sexual situations since their sexual partner might not approve the use of a condom.

Others indicate that they opted out in using condoms in some sexual situations because the sexual experience might not be satisfying.

This social perception about the use of condoms places a lot of young adults in grave danger. The ideas about the discouraging use of condom are actually very alarming since the mere perception of the partner and sexual experience has paved the way for a relatively dangerous sexual experience. These ideas about condom should never be the reason why the use of condom should be discouraged in young adults.

Because of the dangers brought by the perception of condoms, it’s very important for the community to push for education on the use of condoms. These ideas of young adults about the use of condom can even be considered as a myth.

Sexually active partners should not be discouraged with the use of condoms and sexual experience will never be diminished with the use of condom. In fact, knowing that you are protected in many ways using the condom will make you concentrate in improving the sexual experience rather than be concerned if the person has STDs.

Using condom also gives you the peace of mind that you’ll never have any serious problem after the sexual encounter.

With 2/3 of young adults consistently engaging in unprotected sexual encounter, it’s a must that the education about condom should start now.

Doctors are even recommended to talk to young adults in order to be more educated in the dangers of unprotected sex and on how to select the right condom that provides the needed satisfaction
